That's the Way of the World

Meital really wanted to try a project she saw on a kids' program on television last night. So after school today, we mixed white glue with a bit of water and poured it into a plastic plate. We then added a few drops of dye-based reinker. Meital dipped a toothpick into some dish soap, then touched the center of each ink drop. Apparently, once the glue dries we'll be able to peel this circle of glue out of the plate and have something that resembles a planet. In the upper left corner you can see our first attempt at creating a world.

Meital wasn't happy with this one, but Liat thinks it looks cool. Me? I'm just wondering when I'm going to get a chance to pick up some more glue.

I got a lovely surprise in the mail today! My wonderful friend Char from Club Posh sent me these two very hard-to-find books. That, I was expecting. But I was also expecting to reimburse her, both for the books and for the postage (which actually cost far more than the books, I'm sorry to tell you). But no!

Inside this stunningly gorgeous card she made, Char wished me a Happy Birthday, telling me that even though today wasn't my birthday, I would be having one sometime. Isn't that sweet!? I am a very lucky person, to have so many generous and thoughtful friends (yes, I mean you. And you. And you!).

Just in case you are taking the lack of progress photos as a sign that I am slacking, let me inform you that I have finished the plain black stockinette hat for the soldier. When I start to scrape the bottom of the blog-fodder barrell, rest assured that I will stun and amaze you with a photo of its unrelieved black plainness.

In addition, I have finished the gusset decreases on the first pink Waving Lace sock and am working my painstaking way towards the toe. I am trying very hard not to make any more mistakes, since I find tinking (un-knitting) socks stupendously annoying. I am also making slow but steady progress on my cross stitch project, Mother's Arms. I hope by waiting several days (a week?) between progress photos, you might be able to discern actual progress.

Other than that, I have been working on a card. Not having much success, unfortunately. But I am persevering, and at some point I will have something to show you.

That's the way of it. And by the way? The title for today's post comes from a song by one of my favorite bands when I was in high school (1970's). Any guesses which one?

I took another look at Mothers Arms and you caught the beads just right with your flash so they showed up very well. You are getting progress done, but it must be on fine aida; like 22 or finer as the progress is taking so long, but it is stunning. I am glad you got it out again and are showing us the progress.

Oh, I'm anxious to see how the worlds turn out. Might be something to do with granddaughter this summer!

I think Meital has inherited your genes for creativity and art. :>) I'm keeping an eye on that world project for my grandsons.

That plate thing is the coolest thing I've seen in a while! I definitely would like to see more of that. :)
